WELCOME to a new monthly column in The Tweed Valley Independent where I will keep readers up to date about State issues which affect Murwillumbah and surrounds, and the wider electorate of Lismore.

NAIDOC Week 2019’s themes were Voice, Treaty and Truth, and it certainly was a time for storytelling and truth telling on the road to genuine reconciliation.

AS TENTERFIELD Shire’s water crisis goes from bad to worse, Lismore MP Janelle Saffin says it’s time for the Berijiklian-Barilaro Government to act because the time for talk is over.

I welcome the Special Commission of Inquiry into the Drug ‘ICE’, established by the Premier, to Lismore and hope through their work that findings and recommendations can be put forward to help the New South Wales Government, supported by the Opposition and community, indeed chart A Better Way. The current way is clearly not working.

KNITTING Nannas from the Northern Rivers can now finally ‘come in from the cold’ after seven years of fortnightly knit-in protests outside my predecessor Thomas George’s electorate office.

I AM hopeful that Lismore City Council this month will join me in supporting a community-driven initiative to improve pedestrian safety in Nimbin’s Cecil Street in the interim until a permanent bridge over the creek culvert can be funded and built.

STATE Government penny pinching could mean many of the Northern Rivers’ most vulnerable battlers are denied access to legal advice and support, according to Lismore MP Janelle Saffin.

THE NSW Labor Opposition has given the Berejiklian and Barilaro Government an F for Fail following the revelation in this week’s State Budget that 60 per cent of its new or upgraded schools have no details attached to them.

IT IS the height of hypocrisy for Nationals MPs like John Barilaro and Chris Gulaptis to claim they are fighting against Essential Energy’s regional job cuts, according to State Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin.

LISMORE MP Janelle Saffin is disappointed by advice from the NSW Government that the Bonalbo Police Station will be redeveloped over the next three financial years, and will keep pushing for a more definite start date.
