LISMORE MP Janelle Saffin says it’s great Tenterfield Shire Council’s works depot was hosting the NSW Government’s Fresh Start Program’s civil construction training this month.

Minister for Recovery Janelle Saffin and Minister for Local Government Ron Hoenig were on hand to welcome the first of eight new garbage trucks for Lismore City Council. This $5-million NSW Government investment secures local council jobs and improves waste collection services into the future.

Tweed Shire General Manager Troy Green PSM says Council will have 18 Fresh Start-funded employees within its workforce by February 2026, nurtured by an in-house Academy.

Tenterfield Shire General Manager Hein Basson says Council is growing its workforce under the Minns Labor Government’s Fresh Start Program, an initiative which Lismore MP Janelle Saffin helped broker.

Lismore MP Janelle Saffin has worked with Local Government Minister Ron Hoenig, USU General Secretary Graeme Kelly and Lismore City Council to keep its waste service in public hands, avoiding the need for private contractors.

Lismore MP Janelle Saffin thanked NSW Local Government Minister Ron Hoenig for making his first official visit to the Northern Rivers this week, meeting with local mayors and councillors, and general managers.
