PLANNING is underway for the construction of new permanent, flood-resilient facilities at Murwillumbah East Public School, State Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin has confirmed.
The NSW Government-funded project will provide four new classrooms, a canteen, specialist support classes, landscaping and the removal of all demountable buildings from the school site to provide more play space for students, Ms Saffin said.
Ms Saffin said that planning documents for the Murwillumbah East upgrade, known as a Review of Environmental Factors (REF), will be on public exhibition for comment from Friday, 26 June 2026 until Thursday, 16 July 2026.
School Infrastructure expects to appoint a builder by the start of Term 3 and will work with the school and construction team to finalise the detailed design, such as building finishes and landscaping.
Construction will begin once all planning approvals are in place and a builder is appointed.
Murwillumbah East Public School families attended a school information session at the end of Term 1.
School Infrastructure now is inviting the school’s neighbours to a drop-in information session about the upgrade. It will be held at the Murwillumbah East Public School Library, Charles Street, Murwillumbah, from 4.30pm to 5.30pm on Wednesday 1 July 2026.
