STATE Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin is sharing a special opportunity for schools in the Lismore Electorate as part of Reconciliation Week 2026 later this month.
Ms Saffin says the Parliament of NSW and the Museums of History NSW have collaborated to develop an online learning event focused on the revitalisation of Aboriginal languages across New South Wales.
Stage 2 and 3 classes across all NSW primary schools are invited to take part in thisfreeReconciliation Week event, and there is no limit on the number of registrations, Ms Saffin says.
Location: Online via zoom
When: 2:10pm, Thursday 28 May 2026
Duration: 40 minutes
Bookings: Click here to register.
Guided by this year’s Reconciliation Week theme, ‘All In’, the session will explore how Parliament and community led initiatives are working side by side to protect, strengthen and celebrate Aboriginal languages — an essential part of culture, identity and connection.
What students will experience?
During the session, students will:
- Hear directly from First Nations educators about the Aboriginal Languages Act (2017) and why this landmark legislation matters.
- Learn why the legislation is needed and what it tells us about Parliament’s role in reconciliation.
- Discover how important archival materials — linked to culture, kinship, stories and language — are becoming more accessible.
- Take part in a creative message stick activity, sharing reflections and messages of support for Reconciliation Week.
Ms Saffin says this is an opportunity for local students to engage with reconciliation in a meaningful way, and to see how learning, culture and civic life come together.
