LISMORE MP Janelle Saffin has congratulated Tweed and Tenterfield shire councils on each securing $25,000 under the Minns Labor Government’s NSW Heritage Grants Program.
Ms Saffin said the Government is making a record $8.65-million investment in 140 projects across the state, and the two councils were successful in the local government stream.
Other streams covered Aboriginal Cultural Heritage and Caring for State Heritage.
Locally,
- Tweed Shire Council will provide a professional heritage advisor service to the local community on all heritage-related matters across its Local Government Area. This will include all types of heritage advice and heritage referrals (Development Applications) focussed on best practice heritage outcomes to ensure the effective maintenance and protection of heritage items through the shire.
- Tenterfield Shire Council will provide a heritage advisor service and fund small-scale local heritage projects for privately-owned listed items.
Ms Saffin said she was pleased the Government was able to help the councils in their efforts to give heritage protection a high priority in their planning assessment processes.
“Both shires boast buildings, landmarks and sites of historical and cultural significance, and are well worth preserving for future generations,” Ms Saffin said.
