The funding will enhance road safety in the Tweed Shire by deploying six portable smiley face speed radar devices, which will be prioritised in high-risk crash areas and those with high rates of wildlife mortality.
The Member for Lismore, Janelle Saffin said the NSW Government Local Small Commitments Allocation Program provides $400,000 to each electorate for small local projects that strengthen communities and make improvements at the local level.
“This funding means Tweed Council will be able to expand its smiley face signs program to more roads and have the signs in place for longer periods on problematic roads, to increase driver awareness of speed zones.
The Tweed Shire is covered by both the Tweed and Lismore State electorates
The Member for Tweed, Geoff Provest said the Road Safety Signs Project will encourage safer driving speeds, making the roads safer for road users and for local wildlife.
“This initiative aligns with wildlife conservation goals, making roads safer for both humans and local fauna.”
