LISMORE MP Janelle Saffin has welcomed three Community and Place grants totalling $445,000 to grow the Bundjalung Tribal Society’s nursery operations at its Namabunda farm in Alstonville and strengthen their wrap-around services to the Bundjalung community.
“I strongly backed in the Bundjalung Tribal Society’s Ngulungmal Bugalwehn project and I’m thrilled that they have finally had grants success to enhance the great work they already do,” Ms Saffin says.
“This funding will deliver strategic infrastructure and go towards building a nursery and shed, and installing solar and water harvesting system.
“The Ngulungmal Bugalwehn project goes further though, delivering community programs and activities for Bundjalung families, youth and Elders that address Closing the Gap priorities.”
These community programs include:
- Placemaking processes – Bundjalung ecological knowledge sharing and storytelling.
- ‘Look Listen and Learn’ wellbeing and resilience workshops for BTS members and volunteers.
- Garihmagala Bundjalung Jagun Program, which is the Tribal Society’s overarching Caring for Country program.
Ms Saffin congratulated Bundjalung Tribal Society Manager Melissa Bolt and Chairperson Tracey King on the hard work they had put in to their detailed funding applications.
“There are significant training and employment opportunities for young people with this exciting project which will be life changing for participants,” Ms Saffin says.
