LISMORE MP Janelle Saffin has welcomed a $790,237 windfall for Kyogle Local Government Area’s priority youth and community infrastructure projects under the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund Round 3.
Ms Saffin said she had strongly supported Kyogle Council’s priority projects, which had widespread public support and would deliver tangible benefits for local communities across the LGA.
“I congratulate all local organisations who have been working closely with Council on their projects, and now that they are funded, they will provide an economic boost during the COVID-19 period, and be a lasting legacy into the future,” Ms Saffin said.
“It is a pity that the Nationals play little boys’ games by excluding me from these announcements.
“It is wonderful that more announcements are in the pipeline for Tenterfield, Lismore and Murwillumbah, and importantly, our community ends up the winner.”
Successful projects are:
- $395,118 to Kyogle Council’s newly-formed Youth Advisory Committee, ‘Swoopin Season’ for a series of programs and youth infrastructure projects delivered in partnership with Kyogle Together, Kyogle Landcare, FutureKidz and other providers.
- $118,371 towards Kyogle Mountain Bike Strategy Stage 1 Priorities – construction of an additional three trails at the existing Kyogle Mountain Bike Park and conversion of the existing BMX track in Anzac Park, Kyogle, to an asphalt ‘pump track’.
- $116,748 for the Bonalbo Community Men’s Shed to be extended and upgraded to create more safe working spaces — an undercover outdoor area with a concrete floor, a bathroom with safety shower, a shipping container for storage, new concrete driveways, two disability parking bays and a walking path linking the shed to a new nursery.
- $110,000 for the Kyogle Showground to upgrade their amenities – new unisex/accessible toilets and showers, roof extensions and skylights, new plumbing and electrical work, painting, non-slip flooring and new pathways.
- $50,000 to Kyogle Council towards constructing The Friends of the Light Horse’s Upper Clarence Light Horse Monument, which will sit in a memorial space once an existing playground is relocated within the Tabulam Sports Ground. Tabulam’s most famous solider son, General Sir Harry Chauvel, GCMG, KCB, commanded the 1st Light Horse Bridge and a division at Gallipoli, and later the Desert Mounted Corps in the Middle East during World War One. The 4th Light Horse won international fame at the Charge of Beersheba in 1917.
