STATE Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin has confirmed that School Infrastructure has appointed Hutchinson Builders to undertake the upgrade of Murwillumbah East Public School.
“School Infrastructure advises that now we have a builder, construction can begin once all planning approvals are in place,” Ms Saffin said.
“This may occur during the upcoming school holidays and include removal of some trees from the front of the school to allow for the new flood-resilient classroom building.
“The project team will advise neighbours before any construction starts.”
Enabling works for construction have been completed.
The project scope includes provision of four new classrooms, a canteen, specialist support classes, landscaping and the removal of all demountable buildings from the school site to provide more play space for students.
Meanwhile, Ms Saffin has welcomed the completion of upgrades to Wollumbin High School in Murwillumbah, delivering improved facilities for students and staff.
The project has been underway since the return to two separate high schools in Murwillumbah on Day 1 Term 1 2025, honouring a 2023 election commitment by the Minns Labor Government.
Ms Saffin said the upgrades include new music facilities, additional learning and support facilities, upgraded Technological and Applied Studies (TAS) rooms, improved cooling, ventilation and stormwater drainage, and removal of all temporary demountable buildings.
“Works on Wollumbin High’s new sports court and upgraded long jump pit were completed during Term 3,” Ms Saffin said.
“So too was the restoration of the school grounds which used to house the demountables.”
