LISMORE MP Janelle Saffin has helped secure $15,300 in State funding for Tweed Valley Triathletes (TVT) Incorporated to replace its Electronic Sport Timing System (ESTS).
Ms Saffin said it is hoped this critical piece of equipment will be installed before the late September 2026 opening of the Murwillumbah-based club’s next competitive season, allowing officials to efficiently run their weekly Saturday morning events.
“Tweed Valley Triathletes currently has about 150 members, evenly split between my Electorate of Lismore and Geoff Provest’s neighbouring Electorate of Tweed, making it a truly Tweed Shire community sporting club,” Ms Saffin said.
“The beauty of the ESTS is that it enables automated and accurate recording of each triathlon competitor’s swim time, cycle time, run time, and overall event time.
“TVT’s existing system is over 10 years old, showing signs of failure, and in dire need of replacement, and I thank NSW Premier Chris Minns for approving the funding.
“Club Secretary Chris Goudkamp has briefed me on this project’s benefits for members, including a high proportion of juniors, women and some at the elite level with national and international experience.
“We need to back sports which foster goal-orientated physical activity and healthy outdoor lifestyles, and I congratulate Tweed Valley Triathletes on putting forward a compelling case for funding this new sporting infrastructure.”
