Media release issued Friday 12 December.
Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin is urging local faith-based organisations to apply for the final round of the Minns Labor Government’s Safe Places for Faith Communities Grants program, which offers funding to enhance safety and security for religious communities.
“This is an opportunity for our local faith leaders and organisations to strengthen security and resilience,” Ms Saffin said.
“The Minns Labor Government is committed to safeguarding our religious communities and protecting every person’s right to practise their faith.
This
is the last round of funding in this important program, so I encourage any
local faith communities to get their application in.”
The program provides $5 million statewide in this third and final round, bringing the total investment to $15 million.
Grants can be used for measures such as:
Upgrading security and surveillance systems (e.g., CCTV, secure fencing)
Developing risk management plans
Training staff and religious leaders to improve preparedness
Building resilience within faith groups
Funding is available for non-profit organisations to improve safety at places of worship, religious schools, community centres, and other sites of religious significance.
Minister for Multiculturalism Steve
Kamper said:
“Everyone deserves the right to come together to
practise their faith. No one in NSW should ever feel unsafe when attending
their place of worship or engaging with their religion – a central part of so
many people’s lives.”
Applications are open until 4pm, Friday 30 January 2026, through Multicultural NSW.
