MEMBER for Lismore Janelle Saffin has commended the Lismore City Bowling Club for taking the initiative to bring back a monthly Sunday market to Lismore.
“Many people have told me how much they miss the car boot market, and it is great to see this community initiative take off.”
City Bowlo manager Sharon Pepper said she and a colleague at the club had the idea of starting up a market, to see what the interest was.
What started with about 25 stalls three months ago has grown in popularity and this weekend will be launched as an ongoing event.
The market is held on the third Sunday of the month, and stalls include food trucks, Dark Horse coffee, garden stalls, honey and produce, clothing, natural cleaning products, a busker, and more.
Sharon says they have had only positive feedback from stallholders and for the launch on Sunday there are 45 stalls booked so they are at capacity.
The Historical Society and Resilient Lismore will also have stalls and there will be a free sausage sizzle for the children.
The Lismore City Bowling Club’s volunteers will be running the barbecue and the club’s five life members, who range in age from mid-eighties to 94 will be there for the opening.
Ms Saffin said it is great to see initiatives that bring life to the CBD on the weekends
“The Lismore City Bowlo already has its Jazz afternoons on the first Sunday of the month, and now the markets on the Third Sunday, and they can go ahead even if it rains.”
