STATE Member for Lismore and NSW Parliamentary Secretary for Disaster Recovery Janelle Saffin says a $200,000 NSW Government grant will upgrade the Tenterfield Aerodrome’s disaster readiness capability.
Ms Saffin has congratulated Friends of Tenterfield Aerodrome Incorporated (FOTA) President Rob Evans and his hard-working committee on securing the funding under the July 2024 round of the Government’s Infrastructure Grants Program.
“Building up the aerodrome’s infrastructure, piece by piece, to support the local community during bushfires and other emergencies is an ongoing project which I have strongly supported,” Ms Saffin says.
“These grants are made possible by the Clubgrants Category 3 Fund, which reinvests a contribution from the state’s registered clubs gaming machine profits back into essential community projects like this one.”
Mr Evans said the grant would allow FOTA to move another step towards its long-term vision of improving the aerodrome.
Mr Evans said that over the next year FOTA would:
- Extend the existing runway and add a new taxiway, speeding up cycle response times for water bombers fighting bushfires.
- Purchase a tractor and wide-area mower to maintain the aerodrome and reduce bushfire risk.
- Build a perimeter fence to keep out kangaroos and other wildlife, improving general safety, including for nighttime medical evacuations.
The latest round of Clubgrants Category 3 Fund opened today (Monday, 4 November 2024) and closes on 25 November 2024. For more information go to
