LISMORE MP Janelle Saffin has asked NSW Minister for Health and Regional Health Ryan Park to have a 4WD ambulance deployed to Tenterfield as ‘an operational must’.
Ms Saffin says she will not rest until Tenterfield gets at least one 4WD ambulance, particularly given that callouts can often involve rough and difficult terrain beyond the limits of 2WD vehicles.
“I’m fed up because I’ve been asking for this 4WD capability on and off for five years now. I’m not taking no for an answer anymore,” a frustrated Ms Saffin says.
“I’m told by reliable sources that a 2WD ambulance had great difficulty getting to a serious accident on a construction site last week and had to be towed part of the way.
“This is no reflection on our hard-working NSW Ambulance personnel, but this situation is clearly unfair on them and quite unacceptable.
“I’m also told that there is a 4WD ambulance stationed at Ashford in Inverell Shire, but that’s over 140 kilometres away, too far away when such emergencies occur.”
