“This is great news for Football Far North Coast and full credit goes to the club and its General Manager, Steve Mackney, for the hard work they put into their funding application,” Ms Saffin said.

“I very much look forward to seeing the positive outcome from this funding for football in our region, in particular for women’s and girls’ participation.”

The Fund is an initiative of the NSW Government, Football NSW and Northern NSW Football following the successful hosting of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 in Sydney, which saw the Matildas achieve unparalleled success by reaching the semi-finals.

The Fund aims to improve football facilities and support infrastructure, increase participation opportunities, and improve female player pathways as a positive legacy from the Women’s World Cup.

Mr Mackney said Football Far North Coast would use the funding to create a momentum across Zone clubs and boost participation and retention of women, girls and match referees.

“The Fund is ensuring everyone from local girls and boys lacing up their boots for the first time to participants in our elite regional development programs are benefiting from NSW hosting games at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023,” he said.

“In years to come, local players that shine on the world stage will have used facilities and participated in programs directly funded through this program.”
