AFTER two months of focusing on flood recovery it was wonderful to have some sunshine and attend some special local events.
The Bonalbo Showground was absolutely packed this year for another great Bonalbo Show and they were blessed with sunshine on both days. I was happy to swap my umbrella for a sunhat!
I thank Bonalbo Show Society President David Whitney and the entire show society for their persistence in putting the show on. I know they were unsure for a while whether to put the show on but I am so glad they did, to give us a chance to come together as a community and celebrate a truly great country show. They put on free entry to the show which was great after everything we have been through.
Former Councillor Lindsay Passfield opened the show and gave a fantastic address.
I caught up with John Tart the Captain of Bonalbo RFS and was able to thank him for the fantastic effort of him and his crew – a total of 89 days volunteering for the clean up in Lismore.
So many of the competitors, show-goers and stall holders said to me it was one of the biggest crowds they’ve ever seen.
I’m already looking forward to next year!
Another highlight was the Festival of Place Concert at Mallanganee Hall. The venue was buzzing and Brook Chivell and Natalie Pearson gave an incredible performance which locals flocked to see.
I thank the NSW Government for providing financial support to the show and to the Mallanganee and District Progress Association for organising. A special shout-out to Gary and Judith for all their hard work.
The Kyogle Lions Club put on a great BBQ as they always do which was enjoyed by us all on the night.
We arrived in Mallanganee early so had time to drop into the Mallanganee Hotel and catch up with the locals.
It’s fantastic to see Mallanganee such a hive of activity.
