In response to a request from Lismore City Council and the local community, Transport for NSW has recently completed a speed zone review on Koonorigan Road, Koonorigna, between Nimbin Road and Tuntable Creek Road, a total distance of 6.9 km. This review has been completed in accordance with the NSW Speed Zoning Guidelines.
The review determined that a 60 km/h speed limit should be implemented on the complete length of Koonorigan Road, Koonorigna.
The key reasons for the change are:
- Due to the narrow pavement widths, undulating topography and poor alignment.
- Serious safety concerns because of several crests and blind corners along the road.
- It is the access road for numerous rural residential properties and rural farms and is part of Tourist Drive 32.
- Considering the number of property accesses the recommendation meets the objectives of the NSW SZ Guidelines.
Lismore City Council staff have been advised of the review and support the recommendation.
