Statement from State Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin on COVID-19
Our communities need now, more than ever, to be able to trust that our leaders and government at all levels have our interests foremost in decision-making.
Our communities need now, more than ever, to be able
to trust that our leaders and government at all levels have our interests
foremost in decision-making.
This is especially so for those of us who live in
regional Australia.
Too often we are left with a feeling that we are an
afterthought.
We need leadership that we can trust to deliver
practical and timely support when our communities are faced with extreme
events.
We need assurance that we can get through whatever
this virus throws at us, and the economic consequences which are following.
We need to know that health services in our region are
prepared and well able to deliver tests and treatment.
We need to be confident that leaders will act to
support our regional economy now that the present crisis is impacting adversely
on our institutions, businesses, families, pensioners and unemployed.
Time to let go of the Aussie reflex action – the
handshake — and do what we Aussies do best — look out for each other.
