Novel Coronavirus

I am receiving many inquiries from concerned community members regarding Novel Coronavirus. People are understandably very worried, given its sudden onset, spread and until now an unknown virus.

I am receiving many inquiries from concerned community members regarding Novel Coronavirus. People are understandably very worried, given its sudden onset, spread and until now an unknown virus.

I am relying on our State and Federal Chief Health Officers to keep us up to date and informed as they acquire more information about the virus.

Chief Medical Officers have recommended:

  1. Anyone who has been in contact with confirmed novel coronavirus cases should self-isolate in their home for 14 days following exposure
  2. Returned travellers who have been in Hubei Province of China should self-isolate in their home for 14 days after leaving Hubei Province other than for seeking individual medical care

Health and Education Departments have advised that children who have travelled to China over the past two weeks should not attend school for 14 days.

The most important action is if you or your family members become unwell, please seek medical help immediately.

The World Health Organisation has released a statement regarding the outbreak of this virus, as follow: https://www.who.int/news-room/detail/30-01-2020-statement-on-the-second-meeting-of-the-international-health-regulations-(2005)-emergency-committee-regarding-the-outbreak-of-novel-coronavirus-(2019-ncov)
